Irene M. Mavridis studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she obtained the Degree of Chemistry in 1970. During the year 1970, she worked as a post-graduate student in NRC “Demokritos” with C. Zioudrou in asymmetric synthesis and subsequently enrolled in the graduate program of Michigan State University, USA, where she earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1975). Her research topic, under the supervision of Professor Alexander Tulinsky was The Structure Determination of 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-Phosphogluconate Aldolase (Pseudomonas Putida) by X-Ray Crystallography at 3.5A Resolution. She joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR “Demokritos” in 1976 and currently she directs the laboratory of Structural and Supramolecular Chemistry. During the years 1976, 1978, 1979-1980 and 1987 she has been a visiting research scientist at Michigan State University for time periods of 3-12 months. Her research interests include molecular structure and organization and structure-function correlations.
