The Institute of Physical Chemistry

The Institute of Physical Chemistry, one of the eight Institutes of the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, is involved in basic and applied research, covering a broad spectrum of topics in the areas of Chemical Science and Technology. The research activities of the Institute cover the following areas:

1. Molecular & Supramolecular Nanofunctional Materials 

2. Nanochemistry - Non-polluting Technologies - Energy 

3. Environmental Chemistry & Technology

4. Chemical Biology & Applications

In the framework of the reorganization of the Institute, new service Laboratories were established, such as the “Laboratory for the Preparation and Characterization of Molecular and Supramolecular Systems” and the “Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Technology”. The major facilities of the Institute such as the NMR spectrometer, Mass-spectrometer, AFM microscope belong to these Laboratories providing services to the various research activities of the Institute and other Organizations of both the public and private sector. Also, three spin-off companies are on the first stage of their establishement.
